OUR RAILWAY STATION HOME

Dalmally Railway Station is situated on the stunningly scenic Oban to Glasgow line and is surrounded by lochs, mountains and woodland.
The Victorian station building, originally constructed of wood, was opened in 1870 but was sadly destroyed by fire a few years later.
By the end of 1899 it had been rebuilt in red sandstone and grey granite.

Dalmally was a busy station and at the centre of much of village life, receiving and sorting post for the whole area, transporting livestock from the local market sales and providing refreshments and newspapers in the platform tearoom. A Station Master was essential to the running of the station and over the years many families lived and worked in the station building and nearby Railway Cottages but unfortunately with the introduction of electronic signalling in 1980 staff were no longer required and the station fell into disrepair.

The building stood empty for many years before being
purchased by Graham Whaite in 1999.
Liz and Graham moved into the station in 2012 and began the challenging task of restoring the building to its previous glory while working towards creating the welcoming home and business that it is today.
The birth of Book Cover Bears and their ongoing story is bringing joy and laughter into this beautiful building.
Why not come and visit the 'Bear Room' and share the magic.
