Saffy Rose is named after the dye obtained from the petals of the Safflower (carthamus tinctorious), an annual thistle that is more commonly known for the oil made from its seeds, the petals are a very magical dyestuff that can create yellow, orange-reds, corals and bright pinks. Safflower dye was the inspiration behind the many wonderful shades of pink in the hand dyed and felted wool and silk dress and hat that Saffy Rose is wearing.
